Wibox's new TV box Revelation to accelerate migration to very high speed Internet

French Internet service provider and telecom operator Wibox now provides local operators with a hybrid broadband and broadcast solution, Revelation Box, thanks to Netgem’s IPTV solution.

Wibox is the leading provider of the Wimax technology in France and in 2011 was chosen to trial a scalable, very high speed triple play service over Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH). The roll-out proved successful and 2012 will see Wibox accelerate FTTH rollout in rural areas.

FTTH  offers broadband speeds that are up to 100 times faster than ADSL; this allows service providers to deliver new types of services and applications over-the-top (OTT), for instance HD and 3D streaming TV content or home automation. In 2009 the French government made that the roll-out of fibre-optic networks to all regions a priority, it aims to have 100 percent coverage by 2020 and subsidies have been made available by national and local bodies to accelerate fibre deployment. Over 1.3 million homes in France can connect to FTTH at present and the number of fibre subscribers grew by 71 percent last year.

Wibox uses Netgem’s middleware and hybrid set-top boxes to provision a flexible and unique TV experience, including innovative multi-screen services to its subscribers in rural areas.

Netgem’s technology helps Wibox to meet its original vision, and to deliver Internet and Digital Terrestrial Television services and thus, significantly boost the uptake of the Wimax FTTH service.
